Rubbing strake
Black stripes on the freeboard which are caused by rain.
As the season progresses you may notice that black stripes form on the freeboard in the vicinity of the deck outlet, as can be seen on the photo above. This can be avoided if the rubbing piece is extended, as it will prevent the water from running down the side of the boat. Since1997, when I mounted an extended rubbing piece on my boat (as indicated below) there has been no black stripes.
