Accounts 2004.

Happy New Year! The financial circumstances are proceeding satisfactorily, which is due to the usual sale of manuals,  plus a large activity on our sales site.

Two of the society's vessels, Kariba and Chivas, are at the moment at sale, and during the year has Majka been traded and is now moored in Kastrup.

Web site.

My freshwater pump didn't stop as it should, but forced the entire system up to a pressure, which made the tubes loosen, and the water spouting from several places. It turned out, that the pressure switch, which shall disconnect at a certain pressure, was blocked due to rust corrosion of the hole connected to the accumulator tank. May be it isn't the same type of system on all Moonrakers, but anyhow it is put on Solutions/Fresh water Pressure switch.

My vessel is provided with an electrical meter on the diesel tank, but through the years I also have used the dipstick, mounted at the stairs to the cabin, and made notes of the showings at different tank contents. By this it is possible precisely to know how much is left in the tank and how much it is possible to fill up. Solutions/Diesel dipstick.

A new site is put on the Library site, "Picture Gallery". It contains a selection of photos from catalogues, brochures e.g.

Moonraker moulds.

The moulds haunt again. Now they are put up for sale by an English broker for 25.000 £ + VAT. The hull mould tool has had a hull laid up inside it to protect it. The value of the hull is £16,000, and this would be included in the sale price. So, if you're considering a Moonraker hull, you'll probably get it for 10.000 £ or less, as I find it hard to believe, that anyone would start up another production of Moonrakers. http://norfolk.boatshed.com/viewboat.php?boat=6445.

The luxury department.

Peter & Simon Butler run a yard in Dover, and rebuilt the exploded Moonraker "Perfect Days", which is said having build number 001. They are authorized dealers of Volvo and are considering changing the engines in Perfect Days to Volvo Penta TAMD41P, and in this connection Simon mailed me asking whether I had any knowledge of any Moonraker fitted with Volvo. And our Finnish member Panu Mangs has exactly Volvo fitted.

Apart from this Simon writes: "If any member of your club require any parts or are maybe thinking of changing engines please contact us, we do very good prices, especially for other Moonrakers!!" www.doveryacht.co.uk.

The BOOK!

The launch of Sarah O'Hara's Moonraker History 'Moonraker and JCL Marine  - Colin Chapmans Boat Industry' makes slow progress. She has had some difficulties finding a publisher, but now it seems to be certain, that the books is launched at the Lowestoft Boat Show May 7-8!

Get together.

It is proposed that the rally this year should take place at Guldborg (Guldborgsund) July 16-17'th. As usual we urge you to send your non-committally comments, whether you are able to participate or not.

MOC problems.

Moonraker International has got a new publisher, after Dave dropped the reins. It is Keith (Ken) Hatch, who has a dark blue 1972/C Flybridge "Deaconia", who has taken on the task. Morvyn did announce his resignation, but regretted and remains at his post, at least for a period of transition, so Ken has someone to lean on. For the moment being, it is not known what is going to happen with the web site.

Club fee 2005.

The fee for this year is, Danske Moonrakerejere 75.-DKK, combined membership Danske Moonrakerejere and Moonraker Owners Club 135.-DKK. Payment can be transferred to Danske Bank IBAN: DK83 3000 4310 500208 / SWIFT-BIC: DABADKKK or BG Bank IBAN: DK71 3000 0006 5893 75 / SWIFT-BIC: DABADKKK.

Top speed.

Acting on the circumstance, that Owners Manual 1976 tells that vessels with keel should have 17x13" propellers and vessels without keel 17x14" in order to achieve correct max. revolutions 2600, and also uncertainty about whether Moonraker should be described as planing or semi planing, made me forward enquiry to some of you, about which top speed your vessels were doing. The answers don't give a clear picture, as several is doing 22 knots, among them also vessels with keel, - in the lower end some are doing 19-20 knots, while some even lower due to different problems. However, vessels without keel are consistently doing around 22 knots, which can be due to the fact that they are from 1976 or later, where the vessels were moulded in a "light" version and therefore not weigh less.

Nothing of our extensive catalogue material says anything about whether the Moonraker hull is planing or semi planing. I have mailed Tucker Design, run by Robert Tuckers son Anthony after his fathers death, and he answers: The Moonraker was designed as a planing vessel and many have been built capable of 27-30knots with twin 225hp Ford engines”.

Web site.

March 2000 our web site was launched, and consequently it has 5 years anniversary. During the last year it has had 23953 visits and the hits are steadily increasing with at present a monthly average of 2500. The increasing number of visits are due to a number of things, amongst of course that more and more are on the internet and some of these are searching on Moonraker. Finally has the article about Rimfaxe in the Magazine "Bådnyt" lead to a increasing number of telephone- and electronic calls with enquiries.

As mentioned at earlier occasions, my exhaust manifolds had been on for 15 years, and the risk for breakdown was by now imminent. And this winter I did it! Replaced both manifolds with stainless ones delivered by Knud. On that occasion both engines were cleaned and had a respray with the original lacquer. It feels great!

When I proceeded to replacement it of course was due to the danger of an inconvenient breakdown, but also the fact that you're growing old and being a bit stiff, and there's not much space behind the starboard engine! Though, one can be glad that it isn't a Storø 34. I have been down in such one fitted with similar engines, and it has so little space between the engines, that you hardly can get a piece of paper down! Ah yes, own success is good, others misfortune is not to be despised!

Photos with description of the replacement is put on Solutions / Replacement of manifold.

Tom Graham from Ireland, owner of Silvery Moon build 207, has had an unpleasant experience with an exhaust pipe. The inside was collapsing and the internal diameter was severely restricted and was  thereby blocking for the exhaust. This lead to less revolutions and speed. His story is put on Solutions / Engine Check / Blocked exhaust pipe.

Knud fitted last year bow thruster to his vessel Rikke. He expresses: "it eases to a high degree the job!"

25 years with Moonraker.

Now, being on the jubilee , it reaches 25 years since Knud bought his Moonraker "Rikke", and consequently he is the one in this country, who have the lead in having Moonraker for the longest time. To my knowledge he has no plans in giving it up! Unfortunately it doesn't fit into his plans to attend the upcoming get together, as he could have stood a jubilee round!

Get together in Guldborg July 16-17.

Three vessels arrived as early as Thursday, the others Friday. As a surprise even Knud and his family turned up with "Rikke", as they after all had succeeded to fit the Get together into their plans. All in all 6 vessels attended. Eskil and Egon were newcomers, while the rest was hardened ditto,

Eskil and  Egon were "fresh" Moonraker owners, while the rest were hardened with the 25 years jubilee Knud in the lead!

Due to windy and rather chilly weather the Saturday dinner arrangement was held at Guldborg Havn's spectacularly and well-equipped premises.

Sunday the group was scattered, three vessel stayed the night at Nykøbing. Monday Rimfaxe went south bound for Poland and Berlin.

Photos from the event has been put on the web site.

New members.

Lars Wärnelid, co owner of the Swedish 1975 "Sotis", which is being rebuilt after a burn out, has called himself to the colours in addition to Rene Svendsen, who has been in Holland and pick up "Fleur de Lys", a 1973/D, which now is moored in Kolding. Furthermore are Henning & Anna Jensen, who owned Moonlight together with Kurt Hansen, now sole owners.  Kariba has been sold to Harry Schønhoff in Kruså, and being moored in Gråsten. They are all welcomed to the Society.

Web site.

We have no longer problems concerning space on our server, as we now have access to 300Mb (pro tem. 33Mb used). One might therefore send extra photos, if one wishes to expand the number of photos on the "Vessel site".

Service / Solutions / Anodes is extended with photos clarifying the "operation".

Drawings of starboard and port rudder have been put on Service / Drawings.

If water is entering at the rudder bearings, it might be due to the fact that the O-rings are worn out and / or that one has forgotten to fill the bearings with grease before launching the vessel. Look at Service / Spare parts / Rudder bearing.

Sales site.

A 1975/E Flybridge model "Dorsy", moored in Germany, was put up for sale on the web site for 30.000.-€. During a fortnight it had been sold to an Englishman. It was really cheap, which though was due to the fact, that the one engine was in need for repair.

A bit more expensive is "Hermaton", an Austrian 1972/C claimed to be the original prototype of Colin Chapman's Flybridge model, put up for sale for 80.000.-€! It is moored in Porto Ferrario, Elba, Italy. Both have been put into the Register.

Best regards
